What is "Play
the Dance?"
 |
Play the
Dance is an interactive
show where YOU, the audience,
decide what the dancers do!
Each dancer is dressed
head-to-toe in one of our most
well-known and well-loved
colors of the rainbow. Guided
by your emcee, 'the lady in
red' Stacy Mayer, you can
call-in or push a button to
activate the dancers, direct
the show and choose who you
want to see dancing and when! |
How do I
'play the dance?'
It’s smart and
simple: Your host will guide
you through the rules of
Play the Dance. You can:
-
Choose a
color card to activate one
of the silent dances,
-
Pick a white
card for a “commercial
break,”
-
Push buttons
to “choreograph” those
silent dances (and be the
first to figure out what
they do!),
-
Call the
dancers on their cell phones
to see distinctive color
dances set to music, and
-
Witness the
birth of purple!
You directly
influence and run the show!

Where
can I 'play the dance?'
Play the
Dance has previously been
performed in New York City
windows on 42nd
Street near Grand Central
Station, and on 37th
Street in the Fashion District
through chashama.
-
Chashama
OASIS Festivals, July 2006 &
2007
-
Chashama
windows: 266 W. 37th
Street, November & December
2006

Play the Dance
is also a great way to get
kids exposed to choreography,
and discover the joys of
building dances. We are
available for short-term
day-residencies in schools,
where kids learn:
-
The basic
tools of composition (shape,
space, time, level, pathway,
repetition)
-
How to mix
the elements to create
dances in random and
controlled ways
And enjoy
getting to 'play the dance'
themselves and see how fun it
can be to arrange choreography
by activating the dancers!
